Diving into outer space via gamedev 👾

Creating a video game that takes place in outer space has always been something that got my interest.

Thinking about outer space, the vast colors, mysterious entities such as nebulas or black holes, the question whether space is infinite or if there is a multiverse always sparked thoughs of wonder and adventure.

I used to watch space movies, space TV shows (mostly Stargate SG-1) and played space games. Outer space does also provide some interesting calmness.

I never created the space game of my dream (yet), but at least I developed a cool space shooter game using top-down perspective.

Hyper Frenzy is a space themed arena shooter that takes in a two-dimensional world. It provides different game types, which can be created using AngelScript. By default there is versus, team-versus and hide and seek available.

You can collect various items during a match and there are 10 weapons available, such as lasers, missiles, projectile gun, mine, electric bolt, gravity traps and more.

It's cool to play it occassionally, as it is a game that is perfectly suited for casual gameplay. A match usually doesn't take that much time and thus I mostly play it casually if I have some spare time.

There are also up to 5 maps available where matches take place, and creating new maps is actually very easy as they are simply text config files under the hood.

Altough free, the game hasn't gained much traction and not even 10 reviews. But for me it's a piece of software that always reminds me of so many thoughts on outer space and how it has always been fascinating to me.

You can play the game for free on Steam:
