Games on my retro tech haven 🕹️
A few weeks ago I posted about the applet system for my retro tech haven. Meanwhile there have been a lot of applets added which you can install and use. In this blog post I want to focus on the gaming applets. These come in handy to both pass some time as well as dive into cool nostalgia of times long ago. Let's go!

Krepagotchi
Krepagotchi is a virtual pet game where you take care of your own little Krepa. You can feed it, clean its home and provide medical treatment when sick.You can also pet it or play with it (randomly selected ball game or bubble popping) in order to provide affection. Full hunger and zero affection levels as well as a dirty home will impact your pets health. If health reaches zero, your Krepa will fuse and detonate. When that happens you will be prompted with an info dialogue showing some text as well as date of birth and date of detonation, and the opportunity to restart with a new pet.
Garden Fox
Bouncy Garden Fox is a mini-game under the HortusFox umbrella. It is made to draw attention to the HortusFox webapp. The game is a jump & run action game where you play a little fox that has to survive as long as possible. Defeat all approaching enemies and collect points. Various special items can spawn during a gameplay session in order to boost your run. There is no real goal in the game, just endure as much as possible during a match to climb at the top of the highscore. There is an all-time highscore and a weekly highscore. Also it can be filtered by device (mobile or desktop) if desired.
Minecraft
This is a JavaScript remake of an old Minecraft classic version. It was made to celebrate 10 years of Minecraft back in the day. Altough it provides limited functionality compared to the present version, it's perfectly suited as an applet for my retro tech haven. Just open the game, play around with blocks and then do something else. And after some time you realize that you actually built something cool.
Blobby Volley
Blobby Volley is the game we played in school during computer class. It was known by almost everyone regardless whether they were interested in computers or not. If we had some remaining time after class, or we had a break, we really liked to form groups and play the game. Two pupils played against each other while other's were watching who would win.
DOOM
It's THE shooter game that runs on everything. Not only was it a breakthrough in gaming long, long ago, it also proves the validity of a device. If your device can't run DOOM, you should throw it away, regardless if it's a desktop PC, smartphone, toaster or vacuum cleaner. If it doesn't run DOOM, it's not worth your time.
Quake III Arena
Quake III Arena was a milestone in the quake series and also was a very competitive multiplayer shooter game. We spent a lot of hours at LAN parties playing the game. It was actually one of the top LAN games back then, a top tier in the ranks of CS, CoD, BF, UT or WC3. Now you can play the demo version from within my retro haven. Do you still have the skills like you used to have over 20 years ago? Try it out!
3D Pinball - Space Cadet
Any child played that game on their old Win9x system. Me included. Interestingly, I didn't focus only on the goal, but rather on the flashly lights, sounds and space theme. It was so well-known that any child were aware of the game if the family had a computer. I spent quite a lot of time playing the game and trying to beat the highscore of my siblings, and I guess that's what a lot of children did back then. Now you can play it here at my retro tech haven. How far will you come?
Maze
While technically not a game, it used to be loads of fun and wonder to watch the maze unfold. It was one of the favorite screensavers back in the day, it looked like a game, and it run endlessly. I remember that I wanted to "play" it, but you could just watch it. Maybe someone should make this a game. But meanwhile you can watch it here like you might have done back in the day.
DOSBOX
If you want to play other games on my retro tech haven, you can do so via the DOSBOX applet. Just run it, select your .jsdos file, and have a good time! There are some places where you can obtain jsdos files for various retro games. Just be sure that it doesn't break any copyrights. Have fun!
